11/1/20 Stone 4
An excellent match yesterday and a great team effort across the board – great attack, superb defence, relentless mid-field! Well done to Mark, Jasper & Rowan for their goals and to Sebastian for keeping the others out. Great to have Jasper and Matt along for the first time.
23/11/19 Aldrige and Walsall 3
Well, what can I say…superb game everyone! A 7-1 win was well deserved with some really good quality hockey (that’s according to Roger, so it must be true!). Goals from Luke, Lewis, Mike & Kev were the result of great positional play from Rowan, Fenn, Jack & Mark, with a solid backline held by Tom & Kev, not forgetting some great saves from Guy!
It was good to have Kev along to take Scott’s place and an honour to have Roger as umpire – many thanks for the very last minute agreement Roger, although suspicious that you had your whistle & cards with you…!
Ludlow 3 v North Stafford 5
Good match yesterday that should have been 4-all but ended up 5-3 to North Stafford 5. However, considering they are joint top of the league I think we put on a very good show, especially in the first half. Well done all, especially to Sebastian who made some great saves and a warm welcome to Lewis and Patrick who played with us for the first time – great to have you along.
9/3/19 Telford 4's
A strong performance against an experienced team, but the 4-2 score line was a good reflection of play. Strong performances across the field of play and with goals from Will and Mark.
23/2/19 Litchfield 7
A great game yesterday with excellent team work very effectively out-playing the opposition with 9 players against 11 and a victory of 5-2. Goals from Lorcan, Rowan and Mark (3). Many thanks to Kevin & Matt for lending a hand!
9/2/19 v Stafford 5
A superb effort today with a 3-0 win over Stafford 5. With 9 players against 11, everyone put in a huge effort so well done for your energy and team work! Goals scored by Will (2) and Lorcan (1).
26th January 2019 v North Stafford 5
A great game of hockey but with an unfortunate score line of 1-4 considering the excellent play from the team, but with 10 players against 12 it was tough to keep up the energy! Goal scored by Luke.
12th January 2019 v Lichfield 6
A very well played match on Saturday against a strong team – there have been some much worse score lines in the league, so well done! Thanks to Roger for providing encouragement (and informed commentary for supporters) and for Stuart for boosting numbers. Goals scored by Mark & Will.
1st December 2018 v Stafford 4
Well done yesterday for an excellent game and great result: a 3-2 win with 10 players against 11 was well deserved. All goals from Mark.
17th November 2018 v Telford & Wrekin 4
Well done for a very good game yesterday – we deserved at least a draw, but a 3-4 defeat was honourable considering a strong team with two subs. They also commented to me that it was one of the best games they’d had all season and it was certainly good to watch. Well done. All goals from Mark.
10th November 2018 v Newport 1
Despite the 3-1 loss, it was a great team performance today against a tough team, well done all. Goal scored by Lorcan.
3rd November 2018 v Stone 4
A great match yesterday with, for once, a score line that reflected the action on the pitch! A 7-3 win was well deserved with goals from Mark, Mike, Jack (2) & Andy (3) supported by excellent midfield, defensive and goal-keeping play.
Ludlow 2 (Mark Sandell and Tom Prentice) North Staffs 3
Ludlow's final Fathom game for the season involved a long journey to
Newcastle -under Lyme and without an ill captain Scott Kemsley and
several other regular players the journey was undertaken with some
foreboding. However the six man team was augmented with four players
from the North Staffordshire club. What followed was an excellent game
of hockey. The first half was dominated by the home team but they were
unable to open the scoring. Eventually constant pressure in the second
half led to three quick North Staffs goals and the promise of more; but
Ludlow's young forwards responded in style in the last 10 minutes
scoring two quick goals from Tom Prentice and Mark Sandell and coming
close to a third and an unlikely draw. Man of the match was Guy Darrer
in goal but all of Ludlow's players turned in outstanding performances
which made the long trip worthwhile.
Ludlow Fathom 6 Bridgnorth 1
10 man Ludlow dominated the Fathom match on the grass pitch at Bridgnorth. Missing many chances in the first half Ludlow only had a one nil lead and it was not until the last twenty minutes that their constant attacking was rewarded with five more goals. Luke Matthews led the way with a marvellous example of fast attacking hockey and fully deserved his first hat trick. Will Arden and Mark Sandell 2 added to the score sheet. For most of the Ludlow team it was their first and possibly only experience of playing hockey on grass. Bridgnorth's Fathom team have always played their games on grass but were generous to admit that Ludlow who play all their their games on astro turf, gave them a lesson in grass court play.
Ludlow 0 Aldridge and Walsall 1.
Ludlow conceded an early goal from a short corner and despite dominating
midfield were unable to break down a determined Aldridge and Walsall
The midfield duo of Adam Matthews and and Will Arden fought tirelessly
to create openings but the few clear cut shots on goal were well saved
by the keeper.
Ludlow 5 (Mark Sandell 3, Patrick McBride, Peter Walsall) Aldridge and Walsall 1
Despite going a goal down early in the game at Aston University, Ludlow fought back for a comfortable victory with Mark Sandell leading the way with his fifth hat trick of the season. Ludlow welcomed two former players, Aaron Chilles and Patrick McBride to play half a game each and also borrowed two local players to give them a squad of 12, despite departing from Ludlow with only eight players, it took them a while to jell but as they game progressed their usual good team work returned. Aldridge found keeper Guy Darrer in fine form and never looked like scoring again.
Sat Feb 3. Ludlow Fathom 3 (Tom Prentice, Will Arden, Fenn Bartlett) Tamworth 1.
A great achievement for 12 Ludlow players and car drivers to find Tamworth's distant ground and play so well in awful conditions. Our victory would have been greater if floodlight failure had not cut off the last 10 minutes.
With 3 new players integrating well into Ludlow's established team, a single goal from Tom Prentice was a poor reflection of Ludlow's first half dominance. However two brilliantly worked team goals in the second half scored by Will Arden and Fenn Bartlett on his first experience of senior hockey secured a comfortable victory.
Ludlow 8( Mark Sandell 6, Rowan Green 2) Boxwich 0
Ludlow Fathom team continue on their upward curve with a comprehensive defeat of a Bloxwich team who had won the corresponding fixture at the beginning of the season. 4 goals in each half reflected Ludlow's dominance with their young players improving with every match and reaping the rewards of their regular mid week training sessions. They were also helped with the availability for the first time for two years of Graeme Wilcox who with brother Aaron added significant experience and class to the team. Rowan Green's two goals at the beginning and end of the match, sandwiched Mark Sandell's double hat trick.
Ludlow 2 (Mark Sandell, Luke Matthews) Newport 5
The cancellation of the Fathom team's fixture at Hereford resulted in a late re-arrangement of a home game versus Newport. An experienced Newport provided excellent opposition and Luke Matthews opened the scoring after an excellent Ludlow attack. A converted Newport penalty corner meant that the scores were level at half time. In the second half Newport having earlier underestimated the ability of Ludlow's young side, stepped up a gear and scored three quick goals; but this spurred Ludlow on and Mark Sandell's tireless work was rewarded with finishing off another outstanding team goal and several near misses.
Ludlow 5 ( Mark Sandell 4. Will Arden ) Bridgnorth 2.
Ludlow dominated the game playing intelligent team hockey and although
they created many first half chances they only converted once and
Bridgnorth's sole attack produced an equaliser. 4 second half goals
secured victory for Ludlow. Mark Sandell's four goals were a deserved
reward for his tireless efforts.
Newport A 2 Ludlow 2.
8 man Ludlow against 9 man Newport produced an excellent open game of Fathom hockey at Lilleshall Sports Centre's water based astro. Mark Sandell and Adam Matthews scored for Ludlow who were excellently captained by Scott Kemsley, the only over 16 player in the Ludlow team. The high quality of the Ludlow youngsters drew plenty of plaudits from the experienced Newport players.
Ludlow 1 (Tom Finch) Aldridge and Walsall 5.
A repeat of last week's fixture produce a very different result with A&W playing some excellent passing hockey and stretching a Ludlow team with only 8 regular players who were bolstered by Aaron Wilcox's decision to move from umpire to player and a loan of the opposition sub. However the high quality hockey played by the opposition brought the best out of Ludlow's players and man of the match Guy Darrer in goal made a string of outstanding saves. Ludlow gelled better as a team as the game went on and in the last 15 minutes their superior fitness put a reaL pressure on an experienced defence. Tom Finch's goal after an excellent attack was the least they deserved.
Hockey Report Sat Nov 11th
Ludlow Fathom 2 (Luke Matthews 2) Aldridge and Walsall 0
Ludlow dominated the match but an experienced and determined defence kept the lively attack at bay as chances were missed or well saved by Aldridge goalie. Pressure eventually told and two Luke Matthews goals in the second half secured victory for Ludlow in another excellent competitive match.
Ludlow Fathom 1 Bridgnorth 5th X1 2.
Ludlow narrowly and undeservedly lost an excellent game of youth dominated hockey. It was a credit to the development of young players in both clubs that such high quality hockey was on show. Unluckily 2 goals down at half time, Ludlow dominated the second half but only had a Luke Matthews goal to show for their efforts.
Team: Guy Darrer, Don Millington, Scott Kemsley, Tom Finch, Adam Matthews, Will Arden, Mark Sandell, Oscar Austin, Lorcan Clarke, Malachy Clarke, Luke Matthews.
Ludlow Fathom 7(Tom Finch 4, Will Arden 3) Newport 2
Ludlow's Fathom team were struggling for players this week and the Ludlow six, played a Newport seven. Ludlow dominated the game with Will Arden ad Tom Finch outstanding.
Team: Guy Darrer, Scott Kemsley, Harry Dayus, Don Millington, Tom Finch and Will Arden.
Ludlow 3 Bloxwich 4
Mark Sandell 3 goals.
It was a strange game in which Bloxwich fielded 13 players for part of the game but lent us a player. Ludlow came back from 1-4 down when the sides were evened up numerically, to nearly snatch a draw.
Team: Guy Darrer,Don Millington, Will Arden, Oscar Austin, Mark Sandell, Tom Finch, Will Arden, Scott Kemsley, Adam Matthews, Sam Rawlinson
Ludlow Fathom 2 Hereford 2nd X1 8
Ludlow Fathom team took an early 2 goal lead and were dominating this game with goals from Jack Prescott and Oscar Austin. However Hereford gradually strengthened their side with players who had previously played in the 1st X! match and by half time they had scored two further goals to even up the game.
In the second half they played most their senior players from a large squad of players and dominated the match scoring six goals without reply. This was dispiriting for the young Ludlow side, who had played some excellent hockey early in the game.
Team: Rhys Lewis,Don Millington, Guy Darrer, Cameron Hilhouse, Jack Prescott, Will Arden, Lyle Hughes, Oscar Austin, Mark Sandell, Jake Watts, Davis Hughes
