Ludlow faced league leaders Tenbury on home turf for a challenging fixture, with the team determined to make their mark.
Tenbury were the first to score putting Ludlow’s defence under pressure. Jess Lloyd, Charlotte Allsop, Anna Griggs and Lauren Cadwallader worked hard to keep the league leaders at bay, but Tenbury eventually found a way past keeper Chloe Griffiths.
However, that didn’t deter Ludlow as they scored soon after in the 17th minute.
A free hit from Charlotte Gwilliam found Captain Naomi Burgoyne at the top of the D, who quickly passed back to Vicky Roberts on the 25-yard line. Roberts then played the ball into Ceri Thomas at the back post, who reverse-arielled it across the Tenbury keeper for Rachel Bradbury, perfectly positioned, to finish.
Ludlow refused to take their foot off the pedal, continuing to move the ball well with sharp triangular passing and excellent communication. Their hard work earned them a short corner, which they converted in style. Thomas injected the ball to Burgoyne, who slipped it left to Roberts for a straight strike into the back of the net!
Tenbury, however, were quick to respond and levelled the score once again.
Ludlow was awarded another short corner and knew the next goal would be crucial. Burgoyne picked up the ball at the top of the D and struck towards goal. The keeper managed to deflect the shot, but Gwilliam stopped the ball mid-air, allowing Thomas to capitalise on the rebound and put it away!
Ludlow went into half-time with a well-earned 3–2 lead.
The second half saw Ludlow determined to maintain their advantage, but they suffered a setback when Roberts & Gwilliam were both sent off within minutes of each other leaving the ladies 2 players down at one point. Ludlow continued to battle hard, putting pressure on Tenbury and making good use of Sidonie Allsop and Leahanna Parry out on the wings but couldn’t find the net.
Tenbury took advantage of Ludlow’s cards and managed to level out the score sheet.
With the final whistle approaching, Ludlow kept their heads up, continued to fight for every ball and showed real determination right until the end.
The final whistle blew with the score at 3–3, as Ludlow earned a hard-fought draw against the league leaders.
